Queen Drie delivers a night to remember at Stereo Nightclub in Chicago
The date is Saturday, December 24th, 2022, and all week the only thing on the lips of everyone in the afrobeats community was the doomsday winter storm approaching and how it was affecting all the party plans of the holiday season. We were expecting 12 inches of snow and the temperature was predicted to drop all the way to -5° F. Majority of stores were closed on Friday, flights and events were cancelled and everyone was prepared for a cold cold winter weekend. Winter was coming!
Despite the doom of the predictions, the one promoter who did not cancel their event was Big Stage Global. The All White Bash was still being heavily promoted and people were being convinced to brace the storm and come party with DJ Prince, the superstar DJ who plays for artists like Burna Boy, Davido, Fireboy, and more when they are on tour in the US. The opening acts for DJ Prince were Nigerian American artists Victor Coke and Jessenation, and Ghanaian American artist Queen Drie.

On the night of the show, Chicago afrobeats lovers did not disappoint. They braced the harshness of the cold and almost filled out the venue. Ghanaian-American artist Queen Drie mounted the stage and delivered a mesmerizing performance! From the moment she stepped onto the stage, her aura and swag drew the attention of the crowd and the DJ on the turntables exclaimed, “Wow! We have a Queen in the house”. The beat dropped and it was a firework of a performance. She danced, sang, and moved from one end of the stage to the other with such grace that the whole crowd had their eyes glued on her the whole time. This was the first time anyone had seen Queen Drie dance on stage, and they loved every bit of it.

She began the set with her single Nobody and performed two unreleased singles to gauge crowd reception. When the second unreleased song of the night – Ferrari – was done, Drie’s confidence was sky high… she had the crowd hooked and they wanted more of her. She egged them on… “make some motherfucking noise “ and the whole house was happy to oblige. In the moment, it felt like the Stereo Nightclub had been transformed into the O2 Arena. Electric! They really wanted more Queen Drie, and she gave them exactly that. To cap off the night, Queen Drie brought to the stage, Nigerian American singer and American Idol contestant, Dr Soul, and the two performed their latest release, Under the Mistletoe to woos and wows from the crowd.
Drie’s music, stage presence, and dancing, left the crowd, DJs, and everyone who witnessed her that night hungry for more. Undoubtedly, the Queen’s potential as a performer is immense. We look forward to what 2023 has in store for this Ghanaian American star.
